Culture Exchange Program 2008 |
|
TOUCH ‘08 project is an eleven-day project taking place in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, in December 2008. This project will allow teenagers from Singapore and Vietnam to join hands and work together on a problem-based community project model, to help better the lives of unfortunate children in Vietnam. We also hope that TOUCH ’08 will unite ASEAN active youths together as one, foster friendship between the future leaders of the region in order to exchange ideas and to share their unique cultural traditions. TOUCH ’08 consists of various activities from visiting shelters and orphanages to organizing a day-out camp for needy children. The key event of the project is the Culture Exchange Fun Fair, through which we hope to help the public understand and appreciate other cultures, and to raise enough funds to provide scholarships for needy children. Through TOUCH ’08 project, we wish to promote and encourage youth in social service and volunteerism and instill a sense of compassion in them by providing them with an opportunity to reach out to our less-fortunate neighbors. This project bases very strong on Service-learning concept where participants will benefit strongly from the whole process of their service through Experiential Learning. During this eleven-day event, reflective group discussions and activities will be held to stimulate onstructive reflection on their actual experience and those will be shared in the whole group.
Project Mission
- To create opportunities for young people in Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia and India to gather and share their unique cultural traditions as well as lifestyles so as to create the harmony, peace and friendship between participants.
- To raise the fund for the needy children in the SOS school, providing them with books, stationery and other necessities.
- To organize a day-out for those children so that participants can have a chance to communicate with the poor and have a better understanding of the difficulties of being a needy child.
- To foster self-learning, leadership and team spirit amongst participants and volunteers through insightful service-learning process.
- To inspire young people to realize their roles and responsibility in the community.
Objectives of TOUCH Project 2008
- To attract 50 students (excluded the committee and volunteers) from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and India, alongside with students in Vietnam, to actively participate in the TOUCH Project 2008.
- To organize a Culture Exchange Fun Fair in Ho Chi Minh in December 2008, raising funds for the needy children and attracting the public.
- To help the public understand and appreciate different cultures better, hence, foster friendship between nations.
- To gain more understanding of the needs of the community through our first program to continue strengthening the impact of our activities on the community in the following projects.
- Last and most important, throughout the whole process of service-learning, all participants are challenged and groomed to be proactive, confident and capable change-makers in our society. The cycle of learning and action does not end at the end of the program but those life-changing experiences gained still continue to foster each personal growth as well as spread their passions to surrounding community. Changes are made not only on lives of children who are helped but also lives of all participants themselves.
